## How to Update Graphics Driver - Guide

A graphics driver is software that allows the operating system and programs to use your computer's graphics hardware. If you play PC games, you should always keep your computer's graphics drivers up to date to get the best performance from your hardware. Updates to the motherboard, sound card, and network drivers usually do not bring speed improvements. They usually fix rare bugs, but honestly, they also introduce new bugs. So, if all is well, it's usually not worth the effort.

It's a different story with updated drivers for your graphics card, also known as a GPU or graphics card. Both NVIDIA and AMD regularly release new graphics drivers that often result in significant performance improvements, especially for newer games. As Intel became more serious about the performance of integrated graphics cards, the company also started releasing more frequent graphics driver updates.

## How to update graphics driver

Press win+r (the “win” button is the one between left ctrl and alt).

Type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotes) and press enter.

Under "Display adapters", right-click on the graphics card and select "Properties".

Go to the "Driver" tab.

Click on “Update Driver…”.

Click “Search automatically for updated driver software”.

Follow the instructions on the screen.

In rare cases, some laptops will try to use the wrong graphics chipset for Algodoo (we only heard about this issue on the “NVidia Optimus” chipset). Fortunately, the solution to this is straightforward:

Right-click on the desktop and click NVIDIA Control Panel

Select 'Manage 3D Settings' in the left pane

Select the "Program Settings" tab in the main window

Click 'Add'

Navigate to the Algodoo folder (C:Program Files (x86)Algodoo) and select Algodoo.exe and press 'open' (this step will likely depend on your OS, but should be pretty easy to find)

Where it says 'Select your preferred graphics processor for this program', click the drop down menu and choose 'High Performance NVIDIA Processor'

Click 'Apply' in the bottom right corner and you're done.
