## How To Use Google Meet Keyboard Shortcuts - Guide

Google Meet (formerly known as Hangouts Meet) is a video communication service developed by Google.  It is one of the two apps that replace Google Hangouts, the other is Google Chat.  Google Meet is Google's video conferencing solution for workplaces, schools and other organizations with G Suite accounts.  This is the new name for Hangouts Meet.  Like other video chat apps, Google Meet comes with some handy keyboard shortcuts.

### Google Meet Accessibility Keyboard Shortcuts

Announce who is currently speaking: Ctrl + Alt + s on Chrome OS or Windows PCs will alert you to who is currently speaking.  On a Mac, replace Alt with the ⌘ key.

Announce current room information: Ctrl + Alt + i will report information about the room you are currently in, including the call participants.  On a Mac, replace Alt with the ⌘ key.

While not a keyboard shortcut, another useful accessibility hack for Google Meet is enabling live captions in Google Chrome.  This trick works in Chrome whether you use it on a Mac, PC or Chromebook.

### General Google Meet Keyboard Shortcuts

These general keyboard shortcuts help you control how your Google Meet session looks so you can focus on what matters most.

Show/hide subtitles: just press the c key.  That's all you have to do!

Turn camera on/off: Ctrl + e.  On a Mac, replace Ctrl with the ⌘ key.

Mute/unmute your microphone: Ctrl + d.  On a Mac, replace Ctrl with the ⌘ key.

Increase the number of participant blocks: Ctrl + Alt + k.  On a Mac, replace Alt with the ⌘ key.

Decrease the number of participant blocks: Ctrl + Alt + j.  On a Mac, replace Alt with the ⌘ key.

Show/Hide Meeting Chat Window: Ctrl + Alt + c.  On a Mac, replace Alt with the ⌘ key.

Show/hide participants: Ctrl + Alt + p.  On a Mac, replace Alt with the ⌘ key.

Note that you will generally use the Ctrl and/or Alt keys on a Chromebook or PC, while on a Mac you will replace the ⌘ key with the Ctrl or Alt keys, depending on the shortcut.
