Users can perform offline small-value payments with UPI Lite, an NPCI “on-device wallet” functionality. Therefore, the new UPI Lite function improves the efficiency of payments while lightening the burden on the financial system. Only transactions with small denominations are permitted to use UPI Lite.

The function is designed to handle transactions worth under Rs 200. People will initially only be able to make payments; money transfers won’t be possible. UPI Lite Phase-2 will be introduced in the future to handle credit transactions as well. We have mentioned steps below to **Use UPI Lite on Smartphone**

## Steps to Use UPI Lite on Smartphone

**Download and install the BHIM app** from the Google Play Store for **Android / App Store for iOS**.

Sign in or register with your bank details and add a bank account for UPI transactions.

Scroll down the home screen and look for the “**UPI Lite**” banner.

Click on **Enable Now**

Read the details and click the “Next” button three times and then click “**Enable Now**“.

On the next screen, you will be prompted to **add up to 2,000 rupees** to your UPI Lite wallet.

Enter the **amount** (max Rs 2,000).

Choose a bank account (if you have more than one)

Tap on “**Activate UPI Lite**.”Enter your UPI PIN. Once the amount is successfully added, UPI Lite will be activated and the money will be added to the **Lite wallet**.
