## How to Use VLC Media Player to Extract Audio From Videos - Guide

Sometimes you might just need the audio clip in a video file.  You can use raw audio to create a remix, transfer it to another language, or paste it into another program.  Fortunately, there are many ways to extract audio clips from most types of video files.  Let's check out some of the best for the most popular platforms.  VLC is known as a media player, but it can do a lot more.  One of the many ways is to convert files from one format to another or, as shown here, extract the audio from the video as an MP3 file.

## Extract audio in MP3 format from an MP4 video file using VLC media player

Open VLC media player.

From the toolbar, select Media and then Convert / Save.

Then, in the File Selection box, click Add and select your MP4 file.

Then click Convert / Save.

Then, in the Profile dropdown box, select Audio - MP3

Finally, in the destination box, select Browse and the location where you want the MP3 file to be saved.  Don't forget to delete the .mp4 file extension from final of the file name before saving it.

Click Start.
