Chromebooks had no synergy between devices with Android smartphones for nearly a decade.  Google tried to bridge the gap between its devices with Better Together feature defined, but it felt like an afterthought compared to Apple's Mac-to-iPhone integration.  That all changed when Google introduced Phone Hub on its major Chrome OS 89 update, and with OS 91, Google has finally made it easy to share family memories, documents, and files between Chromebooks and Near Android devices. Share.  So, you can use it to easily transfer files between your Google devices.

Apple users are familiar with AirDrop, the feature which allows you to share files and data with people nearby via Bluetooth.  And although it has a different name, Android and Chromebook users have access to their own version of feature: approach Share.  approach Share uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to send photos, files, links and more between Android devices and Chromebooks.  All you have to do is enable it and it will be available from the share menu on both devices.  approach Share is an “AirDrop-style” file-sharing service that Google is working on. ## How to    use nearby sharing on a Chromebook

Just like on an Android, you'll need to enable Nearby Sharing before you can use it.

Click on the time in the lower right corner to open the quick options menu and click on the gear icon to open its settings.

Find the Sharing Next option and click Configure.  You can click Connected Devices in the left sidebar to scroll right.

You will be asked to give your device a name (this is how it will appear to others) and who you want it to be visible to: all your contacts, some contacts, or no one.  After choosing, Close Share will be activated and you will be redirected to Near Share settings page.

There is no way to make yourself permanently visible to everyone, including non-contacts.  However, you can make yourself visible to everyone for five minutes by opening the Share Nearby page and clicking the Visible to all option.  Now to use Close Share.

In the Files app, select a file and click the share icon;  or on YouTube, click Share and then Applications.

Select Share Next.

Your computer will start looking for devices that have Near Share activated.  Once you find one, click on it and then click Next.

The other device will get an alert that you are trying to share something.  Click OK on that device and the data will be sent.
