Bye-Bye Porn: Telecom Department Asks Internet Providers To Block 827 Porn Sites

The government has instructed Internet service providers to block 827 sites hosting pornographic content under a Uttarakhand Supreme Court order, officials said.

While the Uttarakhand High Court has requested the blocking of 857 websites, the Department of Electronics and Computers (Meity) has found 30 portals without pornographic content.

Meity has asked the Telecommunications Department (DoT) to block 827 sites listed in the list published as part of the order, it said.

"… all Internet Service Licensees are instructed to take the necessary steps immediately to suspend the 827 Sites in accordance with Meity's instructions and to comply with the Supreme Court's decision,"

said the Telecommunications Department in an order directed to Internet Service Providers.

The decision of the High Court was made on 27 September 2018 and received by Meity on 8 October.

Meity informed the DoT that the Supreme Court of Uttarakhand had ordered the blocking of 857 websites contained in an old DoT communication dated 31 July 2015.
