TeamViewer Features

A version is available for the Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, iOS, Windows RT, Windows Phone 8, and even Blackberry. And, it supports web-based control, for non-listed operating systems that support a browser.

While some of these options are remarkably niche, it should cover most business environments regardless of their various system choices.

Now the question What TeamViewer offers is a remote access solution that can be extended to include more than two people working on a computer, to provide an alternative to physical meetings and brainstorming sessions.

Advantages and disadvantages of TeamViewer

One of the biggest advantages of using TeamViewer is its cross-platform capability. Where some remote access applications could not be supported by devices such as MacOS, TeamViewer did not. The y even offer Linux compatibility for remote computers without an attached graphical user interface (GUI), as long as there is a connection to the Linux text console.

TeamViewer excels in its security measures. TeamViewer uses AES-256-bit encryption and two-factor authentication. The software is HIPAA-compliant, SOC 2-certified, and ISO 27001-certified. Remote data backup and remote device monitoring are secure end-to-end; the software scans for unusual behavior, such as access from a new location, and protects your data by requiring a password reset. It also provides IP whitelisting and brute-force data protection.

Many of the remote access applications we evaluated have limits of 2 GB or less when transferring files to another computer. TeamViewer has no specified file size limit. If you are transferring a large file and do not want to worry about latency, you can split the file and load it into a transfer queue.

A second disadvantage is the additional cost of the software’s mobile features. Although TeamViewer offers mobile compatibility on a variety of devices, this feature is not provided with standard packages. You pay an annual fee, and the number of mobile packages you purchase must correlate directly with the number of concurrent sessions you have. Android control is standard, but iOS features are limited.

Third, we were disappointed by the maximum number of concurrent sessions the software allows. TeamViewer’s team plan allows three sessions. If you need a high number of simultaneous sessions, for example, your team is conducting training demonstrations or tutorials, you can spend a lot of money to meet your needs.

Upgrading your software is as simple as contacting the online store or sales team, but downsizing your business can be more difficult. Cancellation must be in the form of a written request and must be received by TeamViewer at least the 28 days before the end of the initial or any renewal period.

Final Verdict

If large companies are not concerned about these overhead costs, small and medium enterprises may be tempted to use something they know is lower, but cheaper.

Another issue is version updates that are usually released annually.

The y fix bugs and add features, but all this comes with a major headache for those who are not casual users.

For any company using TeamViewer to support many customers, having to access each machine and get it through a software update quickly becomes a major chore, and one you, unfortunately, cannot avoid.

However, even with these drawbacks, in terms of functionality and performance, it is one for the Best solutions available.

9 Total Score

TeamViewer is the Rolls Royce of remote desktop applications, and unfortunately, it is as expensive as an expensive luxury car. TeamViewer does everything you might need, but there aren't many IT managers who wouldn't want something cheaper than that.

  • Powerful and feature-filled
  • Great platform support
  • Team meetings
  • High cost
  • Only annual contracts
  • Version updates
