Huawei Confirms Mate 20 With Kirin 980 SoC Launching In October

Huawei has confirmed the launch of its next-generation HiSilicon Kirin 980 flagship chipset at the upcoming IFA trade show on August 30th. “Huawei to unveil Kirin 980 at IFA, the world’s first commercially available 7nm chip” read an official press release. It also reveals that the next Huawei Mate 20 Smartphones will be the first to use the chipset. “The Huawei Mate 20 will be launched with the world’s first 7nm chipset in October” reads another excerpt from the release obtained by the Android Authority via the South African media.

Regarding the specifications, the Kirin 980 is supposed to present an octa-core design Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55. It is expected to arrive with a new neural processing unit (Cambrian NPU) that will further help the AI to penetrate new areas and improve the overall experience. In addition, the Kirin 980 has a maximum clock speed of 2.8 GHz with four cores and supports a screen resolution of up to 3,840 x 2,160.

Other features expected include dual-channel LPDDR4X, dual ISP cameras and proprietary graphics processor, which will be 1.5 times faster than the Adreno 630 on the Snapdragon 845 processor.

We should know more about the HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset in the coming days, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, Mate 20 is expected to be Huawei’s flagship product smartphone. Rumor has it that it has a 6.3-inch curved screen and a three camera configuration at the back. In addition, it could use a battery of 4,200 mAh and run the latest EMUI 9 based on Pie for Android.
