Microsoft will repair Surface Laptop 3 screens free of charge, especially those that are suddenly torn for no apparent reason. Surface owners have posted online in recent months about discovering hairline cracks on the screen of their new laptop, even though they have treated their device with care. According to ZDNet, the affected laptops appear to be those that fell with aluminum and not those that are covered with Alcantara fabric.
The technician began to look into the problem a few months ago and now has an explanation for the phenomenon: Microsoft blames hairline cracks “in a very small percentage of cases” on “hard foreign particles”.
In its free repair notice, the company said: “We have investigated claims of screen cracking on Surface Laptop 3 and have determined that, in a very small percentage of cases, a hard foreign particle may cause a hairline fracture in the glass that may seem to appear unexpectedly or without visible cause.”
The company encourages those who have experienced the problem to contact customer service and carry out free repair while the device is still under warranty. (Since the model is still fairly new, this should not be a problem for most people). Microsoft also says it will reimburse those who have already paid for a repair.
