Ghost of Tsushima First announced at Paris Games Week 2017, Ghost of Tsushima is a brand new intellectual property from Sucker Punch that will be exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation 4 – and possibly the new PS5 console as well.
Although Sucker Punch is widely known for its inFamous games, the developer is departing significantly from the inFamous formula with this new game. Speaking at length about big cities and neon superpowers, Ghost of Tsushima will be a historical open-world adventure that will take players back to feudal Japan.
Expect to see more Ghost of Tsushima this week, as a new trailer promises to give us new eye candy for the samurai eyes at the game’s awards ceremony on December 11th. It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything new in the Sucker Punch adventure, a historical epic which tells the story of Jin Saka, a lonely samurai from 13th century Japan who must learn “the Ghost way” to fight the Mongolian invaders.
It’s a significant change of tone for Sucker Punch, the studio that brought you the electric series Infamous.
“In Infamous, you explore the powers… In this game, we allow you to explore what it’s like to be a samurai in this huge landscape of medieval Japan,” says Creative Director Nate Fox. Jin Saka has a katana, a grappling hook, and a trusty horse to help him, but facing one of the most intimidating armies in history remains a guaranteed challenge.
The release date is set for 2020, but could Ghost of Tsushima become a PS5 title? We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, we’ll be updating this page with everything we find out about the game, gameplay details, new trailers, and fresh news.

News and reports
Shuhei Yoshida is impressed.
Ghost of Tsushima was noted for its impressive presentation at E3 2018, and the president of Sony Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, made it clear that this is still the case.
In an interview with Famitsu by The PlayStation Brahs, Yoshida said he was “overwhelmed” by the game’s graphics, adding that when he plays the game, his hands stop because some scenes double the beauty of the Japanese landscape. This is the high praise and a nice update for those who have been waiting a long time to learn more about the Ghost of Tsushima.
Exclusive to PS5?
According to an ‘internal email’ from Sony (and posted to NeoGaf), the PS5 will soon be unveiled at a PlayStation Meeting 2020 launching event on February 12, 2020. The meeting is rumored to be aimed at presenting “the future of Sony’s PlayStation to the world.”
The same leaked ‘internal email’ claims that Ghost of Tsushima will be a PS5 exclusive.
It’s worth taking this rumor with a massive pinch of salt as it hasn’t been verified yet that this is an official email and it goes somewhat against the leaked presentation reported below in which the company seemed to be expressing its commitment to the PS4 for the next 3 years with games that would include Ghost of Tsushima.
In response to a request for comments, a Sony spokesperson said: “We do not comment on rumors and speculation.” It will always be on PS4
Information on Ghost of Tsushima has been hard to come by these days, and a recent job offer for a narrative writer on the game has caused some fans to fear that Sucker Punch is releasing its new IP on the increasingly talked-about PS5 rather than the PS4.
These games will include the upcoming exclusives The Last of Us 2, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima, as indicated by the images of the games on the PS4 slide that was part of the presentation.
This doesn’t mean that Ghost of Tsushima won’t be playable on PS5 – there’s a lot of talk about backward compatibility, and the game will likely span generations, taking players from their current console to the next. If you’re not ready to move on to the next generation, don’t worry – it looks like Ghost of Tsushima is still an option. Translated with

Ghost of Tsushima – Gameplay
A new post on the PlayStation blog reveals some of the first substantial details about Ghost of Tsushima.
The game takes place during the Mongol invasion of Japan in 1274. In this game, you play as a samurai named Jin Sakai who embarks on a mission of revenge and liberation. As suspected, this is an open-world title that allows you to freely explore a vast area.
In fact, the incredible images we saw at E3 2018 are taken from a simple side quest in the game that players can ignore if they wish. Whatever missions you undertake, you’ll notice that Jin gets dirty and shows other physical signs of battle fatigue as you progress through the game.
