Mobile World Congress is going on in Spain and Barcelona since it is one of the biggest consumer technology shows in the world, several tech companies declare a few of their best products for the year. A particular date for Android fans since Samsung, LG, and other big players launch some major smartphones. However, there’s much more than LG and Samsung in the show. Gionee, a Chinese phone maker well-known for its smooth, thin metal Android smartphones has just introduced its latest flagship, the Gionee S8.
Talking more about the design of the S8 Gionee smartphone, the company calls “loop full-metal design” and the antenna lines runs around the side of the handset. The phone looks smooth and premium; It comes with the home button at the front that also has the fingerprint scanner at the back. It also has a new company logo at the back, and it has a mic at the top. It has a power key, and the volume rocker is placed on the right side of the device.
The smartphone has a 5.5-inch full-HD AMOLED display with narrow bezels measuring 0.75mm. It’s 74.9mm large, and the Chinese company says that is one of the narrowest widths for a 5.5-inch phone. Gionee gives that the display thickness in the S8 smartphone is just 0.693mm. At the launch, the company promotes that the S8 features floating windows.
The Gionee S8 camera specs also seem to he pointing towards a good camera performance and In this device, has a 16MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture and an RWB sensor. This camera is also supported by a LED flash, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), Laser auto-focus and It comes with an 8MP secondary camera for video chats and selfies.
On the software side, the handset is powered by Android Marshmallow. The corporate put some interesting features there, together with “dual WeChat” and “dual WhatsApp”, which gives two instances of WeChat and WhatsApp to run on the phone, that means you can have two records at the same time of these services. The Camera app also received a revamped interface, and now there’s optical picture recognition (OCR), which can detect text from photos – although only tests will inform how correctly it works in real life. Specification and Performance
The smartphone supports dual-SIM (Micro-SIMs) functionality and 4G+ connectivity. Gionee at the launch said that the smartphone comes with ‘Dual WeChat’ and ‘Dual WhatsApp’ features, which means you can have two situations of WhatsApp open at once, compared with different accounts. The S8 comes with an Amigo 3.2 OS based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and the smartphone packs 64GB of inbuilt storage.
It also has a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) AMOLED display. Under the hood, the Gionee S8 is controlled by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor clubbed with 4GB of RAM.
On the camera front, the S8 has a 16-megapixel rear camera with laser autofocus, f/1.8 aperture, LED flash and PDAF. The video also comes with beauty effects, Slow motion and time lapse. There’s an 8-megapixel front camera on board as well.
The Gionee S8 packs 3000mAh battery. It supports dual 4G, FDD, and TDD, seven modes and 14 bands which the company said will make it perfect for globally roaming.
It weighs 148 grams and measures 154.3×74.9x7mm. Notably, the company has also integrated a fingerprint sensor in the home button.back to menu ↑
The company at the event also announced its brand new logo and tagline that says, “Make Smiles.”
The Gionee S8 has been a price at just $500 USD in Rose Gold, Silver, and Gold colors.
