Have you ever read an article or document and wish you knew what a certain word meant? Maybe you want something about a certain topic or term? The Mac Lookup feature gives you direct access to a dictionary, thesaurus and Wikipedia:
- Right-click on a word and choose ‘View Up(You can also tap a trackpad with three fingers)
The same search feature can also be used for movie names and apps.
Note that the ability to tap to define may need to be turned on separately in Mac OS Trackpad settings.

It’s easy to get inundated with a trillion open windows, files, and applications, and then lose a particular document or window in the maze. An excellent way to find what you are looking for is to use Mission Control feature which views all open windows on a Mac:
- Press Control + Up Arrow keys (you can also swipe up with four fingers on a trackpad)
Now all the open windows on the computer are in front of you, they are easy to scan, and you click one of the windows to bring it to the foreground.
This is one of my favorite Mission Control tricks, but there are many more that are just as useful.
Fast Emoji access
Emoji is very popular and the Mac has a super easy Emoji panel with quick access where you can instantly browse and type Emoji:
- Wherever you can enter text, press Command + Control + Spacebar to open the Emoji panel
This shortcut trick is the fastest and easiest way to type Emoji on Mac.
