Check tutorial of How to Block Spam Text Messages on the iPhone (or Any Phone)
So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about How to Block Spam Text Messages on the iPhone (or Any Phone).
Having been inundated with spam messages and text messages on my iPhone lately, I started looking for a solution to put an end to it. While it is not as easy as it should be, there is a way to prevent virtually all spam text from ever entering your phone, and it really works. To do this, we have to go through the respective cellular carrier you are using, but to understand why this suggested solution is, it’s helpful to understand the problem a little bit better.
How text spam works
Almost all text spammers use tons of generated mass phone numbers and usernames on free services like Yahoo Messenger to send out bulk text messages. This is why text spam usually comes from an address like ‘141008000’ or some other nonexistent number that cannot receive text messages because it is not from a real phone number, but a free web-based or messenger service instead. They then spam to thousands at random phone numbers in strings associated with a mobile operator email address, such as @ – this will look something like firstname.lastname@example.org, and any email sent to that address will arrive there phone number as a text message. What the spammer does next is increment the numbers up, meaning the next spam message to the phone number at email@example.com and the following next to firstname.lastname@example.org and so on. This is all done automatically through scripting, and since the numbers and usernames that the spam messages send are also randomly generated in bulk, it is almost impossible to collect a list of them to put in the same type of block list that we can use to block phone songs on iPhone, and even if you added them, because they use so many different services, it would hardly matter anyway.
If you know and understand all this, to block text spam you will need to go through your mobile carrier and disable the email SMS feature, making your phones email address will not be able to receive text messages (if you didn’t even know your phone number had an email address attached to it for receiving text messages, well you’re not alone there either, but it’s a pretty old feature that’s not widely used these days now that services like iMessages and WhatsApp are used so often).
Enough talk, let’s go block! Keep in mind that all of these options are account-wide, meaning that if you and your family share a mobile account, it will block spam for all numbers associated with that account.
Block text spam (SMS) with AT&T
I have AT&T, so we’ll cover text spammer blocking there first:
- Go to http://mymessages.wireless.att.com and set up the account for your number if you haven’t already – this is different from your standard AT&T account
- Once logged in, go to Preferences> Blocking Options
- Under ‘Email delivery management’, select the checkboxes for both ‘Block all text messages sent to you as email’ and ‘Block all multimedia messages sent to you as email’
- Then under ‘Mobile number control ”set the menu to“ BLOCK ”to prevent all incoming messages from YOURPHONENUMBER@txt.att.net from ever going to your phone
- Click “Submit” at the bottom to save the preferences
Optionally, you can send direct “Allow Lists” and “Block Lists” in the same menu, but again, because the spammers use random free services and domains, it is very difficult to follow directly and it is pointless to create a block list. to make. On the other hand, if someone you want to communicate with is actually sending you texts as emails, you can add them to the allowed list.

Block spam on Verizon
- Go to http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/myverizonlp/ and login to your Verizon account (register if you haven’t already)
- Go to Preferences & Text Messages and then go to Text Blocking
- Adjust the settings to block both from the Internet and from email
Note: Without a Verizon iPhone at hand, we had to rely on secondhand information from someone technically not that smart for this, but an older 2008 New York Times article confirms the general method, although they suggest going to http : //vtext.com, which now looks more like a general messaging portal.
Block SMS spam on T-Mobile & Sprint
Thanks to some additional information from the aforementioned NYTimes article, we can also block SMS text spam on Spring and T-Mobile:
- Log in to sprint.com account, go to Text messages> Settings and preferences> Text message options and turn off sending email
Detailed instructions can be found at T-Mobile Support (thanks Warren!), But the basics are:
- Log in to the T-Mobile account and go to Communication Tools
- Disable text messages sent from email
Note: If there are readers T-Mobile or Sprint and can confirm these instructions by leaving a comment with the correct method which would be fantastic, thanks in advance!
Once configured on your respective cellular provider, you should never see any of these annoying messages again:
This is true even if you end up with one phone other than an iPhone, whether that’s an old-fashioned dom-phone, a Windows Phone, Blackberry or Android … as long as the carrier stays the same and your account too, the changes to the settings will follow you. However, if you change your mobile operator, you will have to readjust the email text messages for a new mobile operator.
