Check tutorial of How to Change a Third Party Apple ID Email to iCloud Email
So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about How to Change a Third Party Apple ID Email to iCloud Email.
You can now change the email address used as your Apple ID from third-party emails to an @ icloud email address, if you wish. This means that if your current Apple ID email login is something like “BloatedPetriDish99@hotmail.com”, you can change it to an Apple domain such as @ icloud.com. Note that this is completely different from changing the Apple ID used on an iOS device as the intent here is to keep the same account information but simply change the login email address, rather than a complete one use different and unique account.
But there’s an important caveat: this is one-way street, and you can’t revert the email address to a third-party email address after changing it to an Apple domain.
Whether or not you want to change your Apple ID from a third party email service such as Yahoo.com, Gmail.com, Hotmail.com, Outlook.com or otherwise to an iCloud.com, me.com or @ mac .com account is complete up to you. But keep in mind that this will be a bit of a hassle if you have multiple devices with the same Apple ID.
Unless you have a strong compelling reason to do this, it is probably better not to bother with this process as it can certainly cause headaches with other devices using the same Apple ID, among other possible issues like forgetting a Apple ID or password. But despite the potential hiccups and issues, some users will want to know how to do this, which is why we’ll share the steps that Apple outlines to accomplish the task.
How to Change Apple ID from Third Party to iCloud.com Apple Domain
Do not take this process lightly as it is one-way street and cannot be undone. Make absolutely sure you want to go ahead and permanently change an Apple ID email address before proceeding.
We assume that you already have an @ icloud.com, @ mac.com, or @ me.com email account from Apple and this will be your new Apple ID login. If not, create an iCloud email address before proceeding.
- Sign out of ALL devices with the current Apple ID – any Mac, iPhone, iPad, etc.
- Go to the Apple ID management website https://appleid.apple.com/ and sign in to your Apple ID
- Under the ‘Account’ section, choose ‘Edit’
- Look under your Apple ID at the top of the screen, then click “Change Apple ID”
- Enter the new Apple ID (@ icloud.com or otherwise) you want to use and click Continue
You will then need to sign in again on every iOS device, Mac, and Windows PC that uses the Apple ID, with the new Apple ID email address you just set up.
The process of changing an Apple ID from a third party email address to an Apple email address is essentially the process of changing the email address associated with an Apple ID, except that it is sent to a Apple email address cannot be undone.
According to Apple, you can also change the Apple ID Email address from an iOS device:
Change Apple ID email from an iPhone or iPad
Log out of all other iOS devices before starting:
- Open Settings in iOS and tap your name, then tap “Name Phone Numbers, e-mail ”and login
- Tap “Available at,” then tap “Edit” and delete the current Apple ID
- Then add the Apple ID you want to use
Again, you have to sign out and come back to any iOS device or Mac with the same Apple ID with the new Apple ID email account, just as if you were changing the Apple ID used on a particular iOS device or computer.
If this sounds like a hassle it could be one and so it’s not recommended that you do it just for fun.
Again, this is a one-way street, which is another reason why this should not be taken casually. As for the previous email address used with the Apple ID, Apple says the following:
When you change your Apple ID to an @ icloud.com, @ me.com, or @ mac.com account, you cannot restore it to a third-party email account. Your former Apple ID ending with a third party email address becomes an additional email address for your Apple ID account.
Perhaps the most valuable use of this is if you have an Apple ID setup with a work email account, or a domain or other email service that you no longer want to use. For example, if the only reason you continue to use a particular yahoo.com email address is for an Apple ID login, then that may be a valid use.
