So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about Clear Versions History & Auto-Save Cache Data in Mac OS X.

New versions of Mac OS X include the versions feature and Auto-Save capability, this allows users to revert to previous editions of a file by creating a constant series of saved file states while it is being worked on.

Versions and autosave are useful everywhere, but they can also leave traces of sensitive documents and files that you may not want to keep. Apart from the privacy implications, this same technique can also fix some erroneous behavior with versions. The easiest solution to these problems is to manually delete the cache folder of the Versions saved states.

Do not delete or modify these cache files unless you know exactly what you are doing and why. You can lose or have data or files

Access and delete version history and caches in OS X

The Versions cache folder is stored here at the root of a Mac OS X installation:

/.DocumentRevisions-V100/

The safest way to delete this folder is in several steps, so run the Terminal (/ Applications / Utilities /) and type the following:

sudo cd /

To make sure you are about to delete the correct folder, check the folder name:

sudo ls -l .DocumentRevisions-V100

Delete the folder and its contents with rm:

sudo rm -rf .DocumentRevisions-V100

If you do this once, it will become feature, it will just delete all existing history of files managed by Versions.

After a file is automatically reprocessed by Versions, the directory will be rebuilt. Since this involves editing system files and using the potentially catastrophic ‘rm -rf’ command you shouldn’t use this tip unless you know what you are doing and why you are doing it.

Also be aware that deleting the directory can cause temporary problems with existing files that are locked or in a saved state, even if file locking is turned off. Usually this will be in the form of an error message when you use the file for the first time, but it shouldn’t cause any serious problems.
