If you turn off Touch ID because you find it unreliable, you may just want to go through the process to add a few more fingerprints. This is especially true if you have weather related issues, try adding extra fingerprints from the same finger, which can significantly improve performance in cold weather where the skin gets dry, and also in humid weather. You can also remove fingerprints if you no longer use a specific number or attachment to unlock the device as well.

Remember, you can always reverse course on the iPhone or iPad and set Touch ID to unlock again if you decide to use fingerprint authentication again in the future.
