Check tutorial of Does iOS 8 Feel Slow? 4 Tips to Help Fix Sluggish Performance & Lag
So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about Does iOS 8 Feel Slow? 4 Tips to Help Fix Sluggish Performance & Lag.
Although iOS 8 has a lot of great new things features and so many improvements that the release has not been completely smooth for some users, and some iPhone and iPad devices may appear to have degraded performance after the update. The magnitude of the speed problem seems to vary, ranging from random and generally slow iOS 8 behavior to just stuttering animations, or, at times worst case scenario, where the entire iOS experience suddenly feels downright slow compared to how it performed under the previous version.
After experiencing and then resolving some performance issues with iOS 8 and iOS 8.0.2 on an iPhone 5, we are going to share a few tips that helped. The first two are pretty simple and don’t require much effort so if you’re having minor issues try those first. The third trick includes a full reset and recovery of the device, and is only intended for situations with consistent performance issues that seem otherwise unsolvable.
iOS 8 sometimes feels slower with random sluggishness and sporadic lags?
If the performance drop is intermittent or sporadic, or if things just feel slower on something as simple as opening an app, you may be able to easily correct it by simply restarting the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. This is often the case for a device that has been upgraded to iOS 8 but has not been rebooted since then, and a hard reboot (sometimes referred to as a reset by Apple, which, somewhat confusing but crucial to discern, is not the same as the reset of the iPhone, which actually completely knew everything about it).
Difficult restarting an iPhone or iPad is just a matter of holding down the Power button and Home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, which indicates the forced restart. This will take about 10-15 seconds to start. Once you see the Apple logo, you can let go of both buttons.
iOS takes a little longer than usual to boot, and if it does, it can run faster and faster.
iOS 8 animations appear choppy and laggy
If the only speed complaint with iOS 8 has to do with motion, animations, and related frame rate drops or stutter, you can get around that by disabling the animation effects. It’s not quite a resolution, but it simply works by enabling the alternate fading effect, which not only makes the choppy animations disappear but also makes the iOS device feel faster.
Turning off the motion animations is easy, just go to Settings> General> Accessibility> Reduce Motion> and toggle the switch ON.
The effect is instant, no more motion and animation effects in iOS, you have the blur effect and transitions instead. This may be more of a perceptual change than much else, but it really makes every device feel faster, even the already blazing-fast iPhone 6 line.
iPhone / iPad always feels much slower? Time to erase and restore iOS 8
If everything feels much slower after updating to iOS 8 (or iOS 8.0.2), with every action feeling much slower and slower, from opening apps to interacting with things, to slow or unresponsive gestures and swipes, then you might take the most extreme route: swipe and restore iOS 8.
You have to go back up iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch before doing this, so either take a backupup up to iCloud or iTunes, or both, and then you can proceed with resetting the device to factory settings, a simple procedure that will delete everything from the device and leave you with a blank slate.
After the factory reset is complete, you can choose to restore the iPhone or iPad from the backupup you created, and move all your stuff back to the device without missing a beat.
The erase and restore procedure is a bit tedious, but it’s quite simple and it really runs at speed up most devices showing performance degradation after the update.
What if iOS 8 feels fast, but wireless internet is really slow?
A completely different problem that has affected some users is a peculiar set of Wi-Fi problems, which either manifest as abnormally slow wireless connection speeds or disconnections. We’ve covered both problems and found a few solutions that work to fix them, give them a try if you haven’t already.
Finally, don’t forget to install the iOS 8 updates!
It’s important to note that if there are actually issues with the system software causing performance issues, Apple is almost certainly aware of that and would actively try to fix those kinds of performance issues. Therefore, it is very important to install the updates regularly when they become available through Software Update. The main performance changes usually come in the form of the point releases, for example iOS 8.1, but some of the smaller updates can help too. For example, there are reports of some iPad users who installed iOS 8 and discovered a slower device, but then returned their iPad speed to normal after installing iOS 8.0.2. This also means being wary of major updates to iOS, that means getting in the habit of installing updates, or following us for updates on when new iOS versions are available to install.
