Check tutorial of How to Downgrade iOS 10 to iOS 9.3.5
So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about How to Downgrade iOS 10 to iOS 9.3.5.
Do you want to roll back from iOS 10 and go back to iOS 9? You can downgrade an iPhone or iPad and revert to iOS 9.3.5 from iOS 10, but you’ll need to switch pretty quickly. This one tutorial will go through the process of downgrading so if for any reason you are not satisfied with iOS 10, there might be a compatibility issue, or you think it’s too slow and don’t want to wait for indexing to finish then you can go back to the earlier iOS 9 system software.
First a quick note; this is a time sensitive procedure as Apple must digitally sign the iOS system software versions for the downgrade process to work. Currently, iOS 9.3.5 is signed, which means you can downgrade to iOS 9.3.5 without any hassle. Once Apple stops signing iOS 9.3.5, all users should keep their current iOS release or update to iOS 10.
Important note about downgrading from iOS 10: you have to back-up of iOS 9 available if you want to keep your personal items during the downgrade. This is because you have an iOS 10 backupup cannot restore to an iOS 9 device. If you do not have a compatible backupup available, stop up with an erased iOS 9 device that contains nothing, meaning no data, none of your stuff, completely erased. It is absolutely essential that youup from your device before trying to downgrade, either from iOS 9 or iOS 10 otherwise you may suffer permanent data loss. Don’t ignore this.
How to Downgrade iOS 10 to return to iOS 9.3.5
You can downgrade using iTunes on a Mac or Windows PC, here’s what to do:
- First, make sure you have a backupup of your device
- Then download the iOS 9.3.5 IPSW file for your iPhone or iPad and place the .ipsw file somewhere easy to find, such as the Desktop or Downloads folder.
- Open iTunes on the computer
- Connect the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch that you want to downgrade to iTunes with a USB cable
- Select the device so that you are in the summary area in iTunes and:
- For Mac: OPTION + click on “Recover” button
- For Windows: SHIFT + click on “Recover” button
- Navigate to the iOS 9.3.5 IPSW file you saved in the second step and choose to restore
iTunes will notify you that the device will be erased and restored to iOS 9.3.5. This means that the iPhone or iPad will lose all data on it as part of the downgrade process, which is why it is critical that you have a backupup available before completing this process. If you want your stuff back, you gotta backup of iOS 9. If you don’t have an iOS 9 backupup have a backup anywayup with iOS 10 before trying to downgrade to your data, pictures, contacts and other information.
It’s worth mentioning that there are mixed reports from the beta period of being able to successfully downgrade from iOS 10 and return to iOS 9 and * without * losing any data by using the ‘update’ button instead of ‘restoring’ button in iTunes to select IPSW, but it is not completely consistent and you can still lose messages, music or other information. The only reliable way to downgrade and return from iOS 10 and not lose any data is if you have a backupup of iOS 9, maybe made before the first iOS 10 update as recommended.
Remember, you can always update to iOS 10 in the future if you change your mind.
