Check tutorial of How to Downgrade iPadOS 14 Beta & Revert to iPadOS 13.x
So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about How to Downgrade iPadOS 14 Beta & Revert to iPadOS 13.x.
Do you want to downgrade the beta version of iPadOS 14 and return to a stable release? By nature, system software betas are not widely known for their stability, and if you find that iPadOS 14 is not up to sniff, you are probably looking for a way to get out of dodging. Don’t worry, downgrading is pretty easy, although you may find that keeping all of your data isn’t as easy as you’d hope. Even if you back-up have made.
You still have a back-up made before installing the iPadOS beta? This is important because if you do not have a backupup of iPadOS 13.x and still have it handy, you cannot recover your personal data after a downgrade.
We always recommend anyone updating to a beta version of an operating system to have a full backupup before starting their beta version. If you did, you’re golden and you can from that backupup recover once you get back up and runs on iPadOS 13.x. But be warned, you can’t restore to iPadOS 13 with an iPadOS 14 backupup. It’s just not possible so keep that in mind as that could mean permanent data loss.
That said, that probably doesn’t matter if you’re dealing with an iPad that isn’t working or is causing problems due to buggy system software. So with that in mind, let’s get started, shall we?
Prepare everything for the downgrade and restoration
You need to get your hands on the latest version of iPadOS / iOS 13 available. At the moment that’s iPadOS 13.6, but you can always find the latest IPSW here when newer updates come in as well.
Make sure to download the correct file based on the iPad you are downgrading. Keep that file safe as you will need it soon.
And yes, this process works to downgrade from developer beta as well as public beta.
Important note about backups and data recovery: Remember to have an iPadOS 14 beta backupup cannot restore to an iPad with iPadOS 13.x – this means that after a downgrade you could potentially lose data or permanently lose other important things from your iPad unless you have a compatible backupup have. If you don’t have a backupup from iPadOS 13.x, you probably don’t want to downgrade iPadOS 14 because you will experience data loss. If you are in that situation, it is probably better to stay tight with the beta versions instead of experiencing permanent data loss. Be warned and downgrade at your own risk.
How to Downgrade iPadOS 14 Beta and return to iPadOS 13.x
Now is the time to start the downgrade. You need a USB cable to connect your iPad to your computer and the iPad must be turned on for the process to work. This process will restore the iPad to the previous iPadOS version and erase the iPad in that process.
- Open iTunes on older Macs and Windows PCs, or Finder on macOS Catalina or higher.
- Connect the iPad to your computer with a USB cable.
- Click the icon that shows your iPad in Finder or iTunes, depending on the computer you are using.
- Make sure the “Summary” tab is selected in iTunes or the “General” tab in Finder and do the following:
- Mac: Hold the OPTION button and click on ‘Restore iPad’ button.
- Windows: Hold down SHIFT button and click on ‘Restore iPad’ button
- Select the ipadOS 13.6 IPSW file you downloaded earlier and follow the instructions to complete.
- Your iPad will reboot at least once. You will be asked to follow the standard installation process once the downgrade is complete. At this point, you can choose to restore from an iPadOS 13.x iTunes / Finder backupup or iCloud backupup if you have one available. If no compatible backupup available, we fear that you will start over without your personal information.
You should now have a fully functional iPad running iPadOS 13.6 (or later) again – and hopefully with no missing data, assuming you have a compatible backup.up at hand!
You can of course decide to install iPadOS 14 public beta or dev beta at a later stage if you decide to sign up for the beta again. But if you find that the experience is buggy, it may be a good idea to give Apple more time to get the beta versions in a state that is more reliable and stable for your particular use. For most users, we recommend waiting for the official release in or around the fall of this year – especially if you’ve just fallen victim to a particularly bad beta experience!
By the way, this is clearly aimed at downgrading from iPadOS beta, but the process works the same for downgrading iOS 14 on iPhone and iPod touch. For convenience, we’ll cover specific ones tutorials about downgrading those devices individually.
