Check tutorial of FaceTime Not Working on iPhone or iPad? Here’s How to Fix & Troubleshoot
So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about FaceTime Not Working on iPhone or iPad? Here’s How to Fix & Troubleshoot.
Apple’s FaceTime feature provides a free and easy way to make video calls with other iPhone, iPad and Mac users. While it works seamlessly for the most part, you may occasionally run into FaceTime issues and connectivity issues.
In some cases, you may encounter a situation where you cannot start or join FaceTime video and audio calls. Or you can disconnect while in the middle of a FaceTime call. This gets even more frustrating when you can’t figure out why you’re having problems, and there can be several reasons why FaceTime isn’t working properly.
If you are having trouble with FaceTime calls on your iOS device, don’t worry. In this article, we will walk you through the necessary steps to troubleshoot and hopefully fix FaceTime on your iPhone and iPad.
Troubleshoot FaceTime on iPhone and iPad
Regardless of which iOS or iPadOS device you are currently using, you can follow these basic troubleshooting methods when you find FaceTime not working as intended.
1. Check for software updates
Certain firmware versions of iOS may have wireless connection issues that may prevent you from using FaceTime properly. This is more likely if you are using a public beta or beta version of iOS, but Apple usually releases a hotfix with a different update. So make sure your device is updated to the latest iOS version by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update. If an update is pending, you will be notified here and can tap “Install Now” to start the update process.
2. Make sure you have a stable internet connection
In some cases, you may see an exclamation mark while in the middle of a FaceTime video call. This indicates that your connection is too slow or unreliable to handle a FaceTime call. Switch to a different Wi-Fi network if you are experiencing this problem, or have a strong LTE signal if you are using FaceTime over a cellular network.
3. Check FaceTime settings
Sometimes you cannot make FaceTime calls due to issues with your linked Apple account. Sign out of FaceTime and then sign back in to see if that resolves your issue. You can also turn FaceTime off and then back on to reactivate the service. Keep in mind that your carrier may charge for text messages used to activate FaceTime on your device. To sign out of FaceTime or to turn it off, just go to Settings -> FaceTime and tap on your Apple ID.
4. Reset network settings
Common network problems with your iPhone or iPad can probably also be the reason why you can’t get FaceTime to work. However, this can be easily solved by resetting your network settings. Keep in mind that you will lose your saved Bluetooth connections, Wi-Fi networks and passwords once you reset these settings. To do this, go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings on your iOS device.
5. Check if FaceTime is available in your country
FaceTime is available almost everywhere in the world. Well, we say almost because there are some countries that have the feature, including some in the Middle East. The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and Qatar in particular do not support FaceTime. Also, if you bought an iOS device in one of these regions, you can’t use it in a country where it’s available.
The only way to get around that is to use a VPN and choose a different region when setting up up or configuring an iPhone or iPad, but that may not be an option for everyone.
6. Force restart your iPhone or iPad
The last thing you would like to try is to restart your iPhone or iPad by turning it off and on again. However, that’s not the end of the road to problem solving either. You can also restart your device, which is different from a normal reboot. If you are using an iOS device with a physical home button, this can be done by simply holding the force button and home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo on the screen. However, if you are using a newer iPhone or iPad with Face ID, you will need to click on the volume up button first, followed by the volume down button, and then hold the side / force button until you see the Apple logo.
By now you should have made FaceTime work on your iPhone or iPad. If not, you are probably trying to contact someone who lives in a country where FaceTime is not available or whose devices are not yet updated. There is also a small chance that the person you are trying to make a FaceTime call with has switched to a non-Apple device.
If none of the above troubleshooting methods worked in your case, you may want to contact Apple Support or find out how to talk to someone at Apple for further assistance and try to fix the problem at the earliest.
We hope you resolved all the issues you were dealing with FaceTime calls on your iPhone and iPad. Which of the troubleshooting methods we’ve discussed here worked for you? Have you found another solution? Share your experience in the comments below.
