Check tutorial of Find an Interesting Spot? Share a Maps Location with Someone Else from Mac OS X

So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about Find an Interesting Spot? Share a Maps Location with Someone Else from Mac OS X.

The Maps app in Mac OS X makes it easy to share locations with others, even if the location isn’t defined and just in the middle of nowhere. This is a great one trick for many reasons, whether you want to share a nice spot in the city, share with your partner where you left the car at the airport, to send a friend to a great little taco cart, share the secret free parking spaces at Market Street, the location of a great viewpoint with beautiful sunsets, a Geocache location or whatever and wherever.

Location sharing initially works slightly differently if it is a labeled place (i.e. already defined on a map) versus an unlabeled place (i.e. that interesting old shed on the side of highway 1 in the middle of nowhere ), but location sharing is the same either way.

Share a map location from a Mac

Here’s what to do on a Mac (OS X 10.9 or later is required):

  1. In the Maps app, find the place you want to share by locating it on the map
  • For labeled spots: click on the location
  • For unlabeled spots: right-click on the specific spot / location and choose ‘Lock’
  • Click on the small (i) button at the location-pop-up to expand the available options
  • Receive location information in the Maps app

  • Click on the arrow button to open the Share menu and select how you want to share the location to send it on the go
  • Share a dropped location pin for the Maps app

  • If desired, choose “Add Bookmark” to save that point for quick future reference and directions
• The Send Maps to iPhone option is instant, while the Email option will launch the default email client, Messages will go through the Mac messaging client, and the Internet Social Sharing options will go to their respective service, such as Twitter or Facebook.

After the pinned spot has been sent, it can be accessed on another Mac in the Maps app or on any iOS device through the Maps app. If it is stored on an iPhone, it can be referred to as a destination in the future via Siri’s turn-by-turn navigation instructions. This of course trick can also go the other way, and users on an iPhone or iPad can also pinpoint a location on a map and send or share it with others as well.

This is of course useful for driving directions and normal map use, but photography fans in particular may find this an extra great tool as it makes sharing precise spots of their favorite shooting locations extremely easy. Have fun out there!
