Hide Notifications from Lock Screen of Mac OS

Check tutorial of Hide Notifications from the Lock Screen of Mac OS X

So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about Hide Notifications from the Lock Screen of Mac OS X.

Don’t want to see notifications and warnings on the login and locked screens of Mac OS X? Me neither, and since notifications can be fairly personal items from calendars, reminders, messages, or apps, they’re not necessarily something you want on a Mac’s lock screen visible in public, like in the office or school. So turning them off will give you a little more privacy.

If you don’t want to see them, you can prevent the warnings from being visible on the password-protected lock screen in macOS from Mac OS X Mavericks and later, but as you’ll see it’s a bit tricky to hide them from tons of notifications.

How to Hide notifications from Mac Lock Screen

  1. Go to System Preferences, accessible from the  Apple menu
  2. Choose the “Notifications” settings panel
  3. Under ‘In Notification Center’, select an app for which you want to turn off screen lock notifications
  4. Uncheck the box next to ‘Show notifications on lock screen’
  5. Repeat if necessary so that other apps and notifications no longer appear

Show notifications on the lock screen in Mac OS X

Yes, you have to manually uncheck that box for any Mac OS X app that sends alert notifications to the password-protected lock screens and login windows. That’s because there is currently no universal switch to turn off all notifications and alerts up on the lock screen, so prepare for a few clicks.

Granted, that’s a bit of a pain, so hopefully a future update to Mac OS X will have a single switch to turn all of these on and off. This makes the disable option perhaps best for things that are personal and / or private in nature, but leave it on for more mundane alerts like available software updates.

An alternative solution that may work better for some users is to schedule Do Not Disturb on the Mac during the hours when you don’t want the notifications to be visible on the lock screens and quickly switch screens between users, but that basically causes just a spike of warnings that should be visible at login windows when schedule expires. This can be useful to prevent the notifications from appearing up while you are in a public place, office, or school, but still want to see the lock screen alerts at normal operating hours home or private for.

Before Mac OS X Mavericks, no notifications appeared on the locked screens at all. While it’s not recommended, if you don’t find any use for these alerts and popups, you can also disable Notification Center completely and even delete the menu bar item.

Do you have another solution? Maybe a standard magical command to disable them all from the login panels? Let us know in the comments or via email.
