## How to Fix ‘Activity Monitor Not Showing Columns’ Issue on Mac - Guide

Activity Monitor, located in the Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities folder, is particularly well suited for troubleshooting performance issues such as the Spinning Death Ball (SBBOD) and general system slowdowns.

For example, Activity Monitor can be used to determine if the Mac has enough resources - CPU, RAM, and free boot disk space - for its daily workload. If your Mac regularly performs poorly or your work is frequently interrupted by SBBOD, your computer may be lacking one or more of the necessary resources. This is especially true if your work primarily involves resource-intensive applications such as multimedia editing, financial modeling, or scientific computing.

## Try each step, one at a time, until the problem is resolved.

Let us state the obvious first. As you probably know, you can add or remove columns by choosing View > Columns from the menu bar. Are columns selected? If not, select them and this will solve the problem.

Still, columns are missing? We'll delete the Activity Monitor app preferences. Here's how:

First, close the Activity Monitor app if it is running

Go to the Mac OS Finder

Click on the Go menu

Click on the Go to Folder menu (shortcut: Command + Shift + G)

This will open a window. In this window, type the following command and click Go.

~ / Library / Preferences / com.apple.ActivityMonitor.plist

This will open the Preferences window with com.apple.ActivityMonitor.plist selected.

Delete this file by moving it to Trash

Now open Activity Monitor and check if the columns are there.
