## How to Fix ‘Gmail Can’t Attach Files’ Issue - Guide

Gmail is back up at full capacity after a large number of users reported that Google's email client was not allowing them to send emails or attach files for at least four hours, starting at 10 am on Thursday.  However, the global tech giant offered no explanation of why the services were unable in the first place.  Down Detector's outage map showed that the problem was not just for people in India, but also in Australia, Japan and other parts of the world.

## Check attachment size limit

First, you should check the size of the attachment you are trying to send.  To get noticed, you can submit up up to 25MB of files as attachments in Gmail, be it a single file or multiple files.  If you want to send more than 25MB, Gmail will automatically create a Google Drive link for it instead of including it as an attachment.

Normally, you can easily add attachments to an email, but if that creates a Google dive link, it will be sent as body text.  You can also send the shareable link to your Google Drive recipients and give them access.

## Update or change your web browser

The next thing you should check, if Gmail can't send attachments, is your web browser.  First of all, you should know that Gmail is only compatible with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge browsers.  Now make sure you have the latest version of your web browser.

Depending on your browser, you can check for updates directly in the browser or by visiting the developer's website.  In Chrome, you can check by typing “Chrome: // help” in the address bar.

If in a browser your Gmail is showing the aforementioned error, you might also consider switching the browser to see if that resolves the issue.  Sometimes you may find that the Gmail file attachment works fine in an alternative browser.  After that, open Gmail in another browser and attach the file to an email.

## Disable web browser proxy

if you defined up a web browser proxy, this may be causing the problem with Gmail not sending emails with attachments.  Therefore, you should try to disable the proxy server.  See how:

click on search button in the Windows 10 taskbar and search for 'Internet options'.

Select Internet properties in the search results and click the Connections tab.

After that, press LAN settings button.

Now look for Use a proxy server for your LAN configuration and uncheck the box next to it.

Click on the OK button button.

So, if the 'Attachment Failed' error message says the problem could be caused by a proxy server, turning off the browser proxy might fix the error.  Also, sometimes the attachment error could be due to an Internet issue, so you should also check your connection.
