## How to Fix ‘Notification Sound Not Working’ Issue on iPad - Guide

Notifications on iOS devices come in many forms, from banners to audible alerts.  App developer alerts are sent to an iOS device through Apple's Push Notification service.  These alerts are assigned to programs or apps you have installed on your iOS device.  Most notification alerts arrive in text format, while others include sounds.  Notifications can be managed according to your preferences.  If you find them distracting, you can simply turn them off.  Otherwise, keep them turned on.

If you are among those who prefer to always be notified, you should keep your app notifications turned on.  In case you encounter some issues with your iPad Pro notifications that aren't working for some reason, this post highlights some possible solutions.  Read on for more information.

## How to    fix sound notification issues

If the iPad or iPhone notification sounds aren't working, that is, your iPhone (or iPad) doesn't notify you when you receive a text message (eg iMessage), here it is how to to repair:

Before doing anything else, make sure you are using the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.  On the device, go to Settings > General > Software Update.  And if an update is available, follow the onscreen instructions.

Make sure Do Not Disturb is not turned on.  You can check this in Settings > Do Not Disturb.  Set it to “Off”.

Make sure Do Not Disturb mode is not turned on for any specific contact.  To check this, launch the Messaging app, where you can see your messages.  Do any messages have a moon sign?  If so, it means that you have enabled Do Not Disturb for this contact: To disable this, tab “Details” and disable “Do Not Disturb”.

Tap Settings > Notifications > Messages, make sure “Allow notifications” is turned on.

Your device has a mute button (ring or silent).  On your iPhone this button is located on the left side of your device, on your iPad it is located on the right side of your iPad: Make sure you mute it button it is not activated by pushing the “Ringer / Silent” switch to the “Ringer” position.

Try setting the alert to a different sound.  On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Notifications and select an app (eg Messages) and tap Sounds and select a different one.

iPhone X, 11 or later: Press and hold the volume up (or down) and the side or top buttons together until you see the shutdown slider.  And drag the slider and wait for the device to turn off.  Press and hold the side or top button until you see the Apple logo.

Other iPhone or iPad models: press and hold the side or top button until the shutdown slider appears.  Then drag the slider and wait for the device to turn off.  Press and hold the side or top button until the Apple logo appears.

Restart the Messaging app.  You can force the Messaging app to close.  Just press the home button    twice, find the Messaging app and swipe up to close it.  Then restart again.
