A small circle with a flower icon shows up when you get close enough to activate Macro mode and you can toggle Macro on or off with one tap. This toggle apparently only appears when “auto macro” is disabled in Settings. In the third beta, Apple renamed the “Macro Control” button so people know it will show a button instead of switching automatically.
