Check tutorial of iOS 12.1.3 No Service or Cellular Data Problems on iPhone? Try These Fixes
So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about iOS 12.1.3 No Service or Cellular Data Problems on iPhone? Try These Fixes.
Some iPhone users have discovered cellular data issues after installing iOS 12.1.3 update, stating “No service”, no cellular data, no cellular reception bars, and sometimes “Mobile update failed” message similar to what happened happened to some iPhones after installing iOS 12.1.2. This seems to mainly affect iPhones on certain cellular networks, but it’s not entirely clear why some iPhone devices will experience cellular data problems after installing the iOS 12.1.3 update and others won’t.
Often times, some of the routine fixes for cellular data not working on iPhone will fix this problem including making sure cellular data is actually turned on and resetting network settings.
If you go through the troubleshooting steps listed below, you should check your mobile data connection after trying each of these steps, if one of these methods works for you, then you don’t need to follow another. And make sure to share in the comments below what did (or didn’t) work for your iOS 12.1.3 iPhone mobile issues!
1: Restart iPhone and wait 5 minutes
Try this first, based on a few recommendations from cellular providers. Sprint says wait 3 minutes after reboot, but another mobile carrier said wait 5 minutes. This allows downloading and loading of a mobile settings update that may fix the problem.
You can easily reboot on any iPhone by turning it off and on again. Hold down the force button and then swiping to turn off the device is usually all it takes. Then wait a while and press the Power button again.
You can also try a force restart, which is a much more abrupt iPhone restart. That process differs per iPhone and whether or not they have it Home buttons that click or not, or none at all:
- Force restart iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone XS Max
- Force restart iPhone X
- Force restart iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 8
- Force restart iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
- Force restart iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, iPhone 6 Plus, 6, iPhone SE, 5s, 5, 4s, 4, etc. with clickable Home buttons
Once the device boots up again up, try to use mobile data again.
Note that after a reboot, you can often check for an update to a cellular carrier settings on the iPhone from the mobile provider by going to Settings> General> About and also looking for the Carrier section.
2: Remove the SIM card, re-insert the SIM card
Some users have found that removing their iPhone SIM card, waiting for a while and then inserting the SIM card back into the iPhone has solved their network problems. This is a simple process worth a try as it seems to work for a fair number of users who suffer from this problem with no service.
3: Put in airplane mode and reboot
Some users report that it is easy to put their iPhone in AirPlane mode for a short time, then reboot is effective.
- Turn on Airplane mode, wait 30 seconds and reboot iPhone (turn it off and on again) and turn Airplane mode OFF again once iPhone boots up up
If this works, great, although it’s not entirely clear why it would work. Airplane mode can serve as a DNS cache reset in iOS, so perhaps that mechanism is at play here, although DNS issues are more likely to cause timeouts and errors when accessing services than no cellular service at all.
4: Reset network settings on iPhone
You can also try to reset network settings in iOS. One drawback to this approach is that you will lose any saved Wi-Fi passwords, any custom DNS entries, or other changes to the network-specific settings. Nonetheless, resetting network settings in iOS is an often time-tested approach to resolving network and cellular connection issues on iPhone. First, write down the important wi-ifi passwords for the networks you are connecting to and any other important network settings. The rest is easy to do, here’s how:
- Open Settings on iPhone, go to “General” and then to “Reset”
- Tap “Reset Network Settings” and confirm that you want to reset network settings by tapping “Reset Network Settings” button
- Wait a second
- Optional but recommended, reboot iPhone
Now try to use the cellular network, it should work.
Bonus tip for Sprint users: for Sprint iPhones you can reset a different network settings, specifically for Spring specific network settings by dialing ## 72786 # then tap ‘ok’ at the various prompts to reset the network settings and finally restart the device to start up.
5: Put LTE in data only
- Open Settings then go to “Cellular” and “Cellular Data Options”
- Tap “Enable LTE” then select “Data Only”
This worked for some users in fixing previous iOS mobile data issues with iOS 12.1.1 and iOS 12.1.2, so it can help for iOS 12.1.3 as well.
There are several reports of this issue on the web, in Apple Support forums, various Apple fan forums, our comment section and incoming emails, and on Twitter, including at Sprint and on the Twitter Apple Support account here, here, here, and elsewhere if you search for “iOS 12.1.3 Mobile” or “iOS 12.1.3 mobile data ”and similar search terms on Twitter. It’s always vaguely possible that there’s a bug or other glitch in the iOS 12.1.3 update or update process, and if so, a future update will be released to fix the problem. But more likely there is a problem somewhere with a setting on certain devices that is affected, be it lingering old configuration or obsolete data cache, or some other behind-the-scenes problem that can be easily fixed by rebooting or network settings to reset.
Anyway, like the above tips helped to fix your iPhone and iOS 12.1.3 mobile issues, or if you found some other solution to fix it mobile data connectivity issues with iOS 12.1.3 on iPhone, please share with us in the comments below what worked for you and what didn’t.
