So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about iPhone / iPad Bluetooth Won’t Turn On or Work? Here’s How to Fix & Troubleshoot.
Making Bluetooth connections to peripherals and other devices from your iPhone or iPad is, for the most part, a fairly simple and straightforward procedure, but sometimes you may run into connection issues.
In rare cases, you may not be able to successfully pair or connect a Bluetooth accessory with your iOS device, or you may have problems that even cause you to feature On. This can be for a variety of reasons ranging from firmware issues to faulty Bluetooth connection. Fortunately, this is quite easy to diagnose and fix in most situations.
If you are one of those unlucky iOS users who can’t get Bluetooth to work properly, don’t worry. In this article, we will walk you through the necessary steps to quickly troubleshoot and fix possible Bluetooth connection issues you may encounter on your iPhone and iPad.
How to Troubleshoot and fix Bluetooth issues on iPhone and iPad
Regardless of the iOS device you are using right now, you can follow these basic troubleshooting methods when you have connection issues.
1. Make sure your Bluetooth device is connected
Although a Bluetooth accessory that has already been paired should automatically connect to your device, sometimes the connection cannot be established and manual connection may be required. To check if your device is actually connected, go to Settings -> Bluetooth and see if the device you are trying to use is “Connected” as shown below.
2. Switch Bluetooth off and on again
We get that this step may sound strange, but there may be minor software bugs that can be easily fixed by certain ones features and turn them back on in iOS. Go to Settings -> Bluetooth and use the switch to turn it on feature.
3. Disconnect the Bluetooth device and reconnect
Wireless connection problems can normally be resolved by simply unplugging and plugging in the device. Luckily, you can disconnect any Bluetooth device you’ve previously paired with with the touch of a button button. Go to the Control Center on iOS and just tap the Bluetooth switch until it is grayed out as shown below.
4. Forget and re-pair your Bluetooth device
If you see that your Bluetooth device is connected and it is still not working properly, or if it suddenly stops working, chances are that the problem you are facing is due to a faulty connection. Unpairing and repairing the Bluetooth device should fix this in most cases.
- Go to Settings -> Bluetooth on your iPhone or iPad and tap the “i” icon right next to the Bluetooth device you are trying to connect to.
- Now tap on “Forget This Device” to unpair it. Once done, you can go ahead and pair your Bluetooth device again to see if it works.
5. Check for software updates
Certain firmware versions of iOS may have Bluetooth and other wireless connection issues. This is more likely if you are using a public beta or beta version of iOS, but Apple usually releases a hotfix with a different update. So make sure your device is updated to the latest iOS version by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update. If an update is pending, you will be notified here and can tap “Install Now” to start the update process.
6. Reset network settings
Do not give up just. Common network problems with your iPhone or iPad can probably also be the reason why you cannot connect to one of your Bluetooth devices. However, this can be easily solved by resetting your network settings. Keep in mind that you will lose your saved Bluetooth connections, Wi-Fi networks and passwords once you reset these settings. To do this, go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings on your iOS device.
7. Force restart your iOS device
The last thing you would like to try is to restart your iPhone or iPad by turning it off and on again. However, that is not the end of the road either. You can also restart your device, which is different from a normal reboot. If you are using an iOS device with a physical home button, this can be done by simply holding the force button and home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo on the screen. However, if you are using a newer iPhone or iPad with Face ID, you will need to click on the volume up button first, followed by the volume down button and then hold the side / power button until you see the Apple logo.
If none of the above troubleshooting methods worked in your favor, chances are the problem is with the Bluetooth device you are trying to connect to and not your iPhone itself. For starters, you can check that the Bluetooth device has enough charge to function properly. Look for signs of physical damage on the Bluetooth accessory as hardware problems after physical damage are quite common.
Physical damage and water damage also applies to your iPhone and iPad, so take a good look at your device.
For all hardware issues on your iOS device, contact the official Apple support for further assistance.
