If you are using the multi-desktop Spaces feature from Mission Control, you’ll probably like a hidden gesture in Mac OS X that lets you instantly jump back to the most recently used Space with just a four-finger tap on the trackpad (or Magic Mouse). Here is how to enable the gesture with a standard write command.

Launch Terminal from / Applications / Utilities / and enter the following command:

defaults write com.apple.dock double-tap-jump-back -bool TRUE; killall Dock

Switch to another desktop and tap with four fingers to immediately switch back to the previously used Space. You obviously need multiple Spaces for this to work, and once you get used to it, it’s a really nice addition to the other Mac gestures.

Spaces in OS X Lion

You can disable the gesture by entering the following standard write command in the Terminal: default settings delete com.apple.dock double-tap-jump-back; killall Dock
