  2. Collect images from your photo albums and drop them into the ‘My Screensaver’ folder
  3. Launch System Preferences from the  Apple menu
  4. Click on Desktop & Screensaver
  5. Click the Screen Saver tab and then click a type of screen saver for images, for example Origami or Slideshow or “Ken Burns”
  6. Click on the “Source” submenu (for older macOS versions, select the + button at the bottom of the screen saver list)
  7. Select “Add folder with images”
  8. Navigate to the “My ScreenSaver” folder with pictures you have previously taken
  9. That is it!

Turn an image folder into a screen saver in Mac OS X

You can now select different effects for the screen saver by clicking the side-by-side icons and Options to control how the images are displayed, whether they fade in or out, cropped, etc.

Newer versions of Mac OS X have a wide variety of new options divided into completely different screen savers. Choosing a source folder remains consistent with the selection as you test the slide show effect.

In modern Mac OS versions you have even more display options to choose from, as you can turn any of the built-in “Slideshow” screen savers into something with your own images just by clicking the “Source” menu and selecting a folder. as shown in this screenshot:

This process of creating your own screensaver is even easier if you’re using the Photos app or iPhoto, as iPhoto and Photos both hook automatically up to the ScreenSaver preference pane, simply select the photo album you want to display and the rest is the same.

For those using older Mac versions, adding the image folder to the screen saver is done from the bottom of the screen saver list. This differs from the newer versions of Mac software where the screen saver source is chosen in the screen saver itself.
