To move a file or folder means to change its location from where it is now to where you want it to be, without making a copy of the file or folder. On the other hand, everyone knows that you can move files on a Mac without dragging by copying and pasting the file. Even though these traditional ways work just fine, there are other ways that may be better, depending on what you need to do. How to Move Files and Folder On Windows
- Align the two windows next to each other. Click the first window and then hold the Windows key and press the right-arrow key. To fill the screen’s left half, click the other window, hold the Windows key, and press the left-arrow key.
- Aim the mouse pointer at the file or folder you want to move.
- While holding down the right mouse button, move the mouse until it points at the destination folder. As you see in the following two images, you’re dragging the Traveler file from the House folder to the Morocco folder.
- Release the mouse button and choose Copy Here, Move Here, or Create Shortcuts Here from the pop-up menu.
How to Move Files and Folder On Mac
Copy and paste
- Select the file you want to move.
- Right-click and select Copy.
- Move to the location you wish the file to be transferred.
- Right-click again and click Paste.
That’s it. You’ve successfully copied and pasted a file! You can also use a quick keyboard command to copy and paste; here’s how:
- Select the file you want to relocate.
- Press Command-C to copy the file.
- Move to the new location and press Command-V to paste the file in place.
Drag and drop
- First, locate the file you want to move in Finder.
- Notice the various locations in the left sidebar of Finder.
- To move your file to one of these locations, select the file, drag it on top of your desired location and release it.
Move files using the title bar
- Open the file you would like to move.
- Hover your cursor over the filename in the title bar.
- Click the chevron icon to open the pop-up menu.
- Here, you can change not only the file name but also the location.
