Check tutorial of How to Record Slow Motion Video with iPhone Camera
So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about How to Record Slow Motion Video with iPhone Camera.
The latest iPhone models support slow motion video recording with the native Camera app. This handy feature was first introduced as an important part of the modern iPhonecameras and can record 1080p or 720p movies at 240 or 120 frames per second. But that doesn’t mean slow motion is limited only to the latest and greatest iPhones, you can even use third-party apps to record slow motion video on older iPhone models. In either case, the result is really nice slow motion videos, which can be a great way to emphasize certain scenes or events or just to get a better look at the action of whatever you’re recording.
Using slow motion video on iPhone is a two-step process. First, you’ll need to run the slow-mo recording tool in the Camera app to record the slow motion video at 120FPS, and then you have to use the camera Roll to determine which part of the video (if not the whole thing) is actually shown in slow motion.
How to Record slow motion videos with iPhone
Capturing slow motion video on iPhone is almost identical to recording normal video, but you have to use the specific ‘slow-mo’ mode:
- Open the Camera app as usual, then swipe to the “Slow-Mo” setting
- Use the camera to record your video as usual by tapping the red button, end the video recording as usual
The video is recorded normally and apparently at normal speed, but is actually recorded at a high frame rate of 120 fps. That high FPS allows the video to be watched in slow motion, which we’ll cover next.

So the recorded video looks normal, how do you actually watch the slow motion video? You do that through Camera Role in the Photos app:
- Open the Photos app and go to Camera Roll and find the videos
- Select the slow motion video you just recorded, slow motion video is indicated by the small circle icon in the corner of the video thumbnail
- When the movie opens, you’ll see two black handles on a blue slider, right below the scrubber – these are the slow motion controls (and yes, they’re different from the yellow editing and cropping handles) – just drag those blue handles to where you want the slow motion video (or expand all the way if you want the whole video to stay in slow motion)
The video will be played in slow motion where the black steering wheel has been selected.
Here are a few examples of slow motion videos taken with iPhone. Here’s a yellowjacket wasp in a glass cup:

I’m not much of a videographer, so we’ll rely on some much better slow motion preview videos on YouTube to really show off the feature. Check them out below to get an idea of what kind of effects you can expect, as you can see it’s a really cool effect:
How about recording slow motion video on iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 4S and iPad?
The Official “Slo-Mo” feature of the camera app is limited to the latest iPhones, but that doesn’t mean you can’t record slow motion video with older iPhones and iPads. Instead, you should rely on a third-party app that costs a few dollars.
Perhaps the best slow-motion video recording app to support older iPhones is the SlowCam app, available for $ 2 from the App Store, which records at 60fps for the iPhone 5 series and 30fps for other older devices . The iPhone 5 produces pretty good slow motion video, while the 30 FPS speed on older models makes things seem a bit choppy, but it looks slower anyway.
Alternatively, a free app called SloMo can also record slow motion video on iPad and iPhone, available for free on iOS App Store. It also works to record slow motion video, although the output isn’t necessarily as refined as the original experience.
Again, all newer iPhones models don’t require the use of a third-party app. You only need an iPhone 5S (or newer …) to run the feature natively enabled. Have fun shooting!
