  4. A short message ‘You have taken a FaceTime photo’ appears on the screen (and yes, all parties will see the message that the photo was taken)

  6. Repeat as desired with additional Live Photos from the FaceTime video call

The resulting Live Photos will appear in your Camera Roll within the Photos app just like any other Live Photo you may have created.

Outside of FaceTime, you can also take Live Photos with the Camera from iPhone or iPad at any time with the general camera app or lock screen camera.

Note that the ability to take Live Photos in FaceTime was briefly removed from iOS 12, but later returned in newer versions of iOS 12 past the 12.1.1 release version, so if you don’t have the Live Photos capability click a compatible iPhone or iPad, you must first update your iOS system software to a newer version.

If you know you’re on a modern version of iOS and you still don’t have Live Photos feature In FaceTime video calls, your device may not be compatible with the feature, or whether it is turned off in the ‘FaceTime’ section of the iOS Settings app.
