Check tutorial of Test the New Touch Bar on Any Mac with Touche or TouchBarDemo
So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about Test the New Touch Bar on Any Mac with Touche or TouchBarDemo.
The all-new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar has been announced, although it isn’t fully shipping yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t test the new TouchBar functionality on an existing Mac, even without the official hardware Touch Bar at the top of it. keyboard. Thanks to a third party app, you can try it and get a Touch Bar experience on any Mac, by interacting with it using your mouse cursor or using a connected iPad.
Try a virtual Touch Bar with Touche
Touche is a simple option to run a virtual Touch Bar on screen on Mac. It’s not touch interactive but relies on the mouse cursor to interact with, but you can see which apps will have TouchBar support and how they respond to the feature.
- Get Touche from Redsweater
Touche, like TouchBarDemo, requires the latest build of macOS Sierra 16B2657 or higher, you can check the Mac OS build if you’re not sure which one you’re using. Apart from that, it is quite easy to use, just download and launch the app.
Testing the new Touch Bar with TouchBarDemo
This is for advanced users as it requires a bit of technical know-how. For the full touch experience, you’ll have a newer iPad with iOS 10, the latest build of macOS Sierra (16B2657 or later, you can check the build if you’re not sure), a USB cable, the latest Xcode, and some experience sideload apps to iOS, with a little patience. If you just want the Touch Bar on a Mac screen, you just need the latest Sierra build and the demo app.
Assuming you meet all of these requirements, you can have a little fun with the TouchBar demo on almost any Mac. The basics are as follows:
- Download the TouchBar demo here
- For the touch experience, open TouchBarClient in Xcode, choose your iPad as the target for sideloading from Xcode to iOS
Once TouchBarServer is loaded on the Mac, you can open the Touch Bar on the iPad or Mac screen by pressing the FN key on the Mac. You have to sideload the TouchBarClient onto the iPad, of course, for the iPad side of things to work.
And yes, you can also just use the TouchBar Server app in MacOS and get a cursor-clickable Touch Bar on a Mac’s screen instead, although it obviously has no touch support.
The Touch Bar changes depending on the app you are using, as you can see in the demo video below, which shows a Mac and iPad with the feature:
Obviously, this doesn’t provide the full Touch Bar experience, but it can be useful to have it feature as a touch interface that goes beyond just using the Touch Bar in Xcode without direct touch effects.
You might even discover that the Terminal app includes an ESC key on the Touch Bar, hooray!

Lots of fun. Or just wait for the Touch Bar MacBook Pro to appear up in shops or on the doorstep and use the real thing!
