So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about How to Use Look Around on Maps for iPhone & iPad.
Did you know that Apple Maps has a feature with which you ‘look around’ in some areas as if you were on the ground? Indeed, available for iPhone and iPad.
Most of us are familiar with Google’s “Street View,” a handy one feature in Google Maps that allows you to view panoramic street-level images of various cities around the world. When Street View was first introduced in 2007 it was way ahead of its time, but today Google isn’t the only player in this space with a lot of competition to watch out for, the latest being Apple.
The Cupertino-based company has recently begun rolling out a functionality similar to Apple Maps in the United States, simply called “Look Around”. In all fairness, Apple has taken the time to add this functionality, given that it’s been seven years since Apple replaced Google Maps on iOS devices with their own web map service.
If you are one of those iOS users who want to try this feature and see how it compares to Street View, then you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we’ll cover exactly how to use Look Around on Apple Maps for iPhone and iPad.
How to Use Browse Maps for iPhone and iPad.
Currently the new ‘Look Around’ feature is only available for select locations and larger cities, including popular cities like Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas and San Francisco, but the feature will grow, so it’s worth checking out other locations as well. So if you are interested in learning how to access to these featurejust follow the steps below.
- Open the stock app “Cards” from it home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
- Enter one of the supported locations in the search bar and tap search on your keyboard.
- Maps now take you to the location you are looking for. Simply zoom in slowly until you see a “binoculars” icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- As you can see in the screenshot below, it is located right below the navigation icon. Tap the “binoculars icon” to proceed to the next step.
- Now you will see an example of the “Look around” feature at the top right of your screen. The pin on the map is now indicated by a binocular icon, which can be dragged to get a Street View preview of the indicated location. To use Shop around in full screen mode, tap the “stretch” icon in the top left corner of your screen.
- To look around here, simply tap anywhere on the screen and rotate for a 360 degree view. When you’re ready to exit Look Around mode, tap “Done” to switch back to regular maps.
That’s pretty much all there is to it.
If you are lucky enough to live in one of the currently supported locations, you would like to know that the feature works seamlessly. Important points of interest such as businesses, restaurants, landmarks, etc. are all highlighted in Look Around for quick access.
If you live in a city, region or country where Look Around is not yet available, don’t worry. You can take advantage of other useful Apple Maps features such as “Look Inside,” which gives you access to maps of airports, shopping centers, and other notable landmarks while you wait patiently for the rollout. Or you can just use Google Street View, which is something more ubiquitous for all kinds of global locations.
Compared to Google Street View, Apple Maps Look Around is a bit limited with currently fewer cities and locations supported, so it may take a while for Apple up to the expectations of Google Street View.
Apple has promised to roll this out feature to more countries and territories over time, but we’ll just have to see how quickly they can expand coverage. Look Around was made possible using Apple’s own map vehicles equipped with various cameras and lidar sensors that help capture street-level images as they travel through different locations.
Have you tried Look Around in Apple Maps? Do you live in one of the supported cities or are you patiently waiting for availability in your area? Let us know your thoughts and opinions on this new addition to Apple’s map service in the comments section below.
