Here is how to access and use tabbed emails in the Mail app for Mac OS X later:

1. Open the Mail app if you haven’t already, then send the application to full screen mode by clicking the green maximize button in the title bar of the Mail app



2. Compose a new email by pressing Command + N (or by going to the Mail menu and choosing “New Message”)



3. Repeat the previous step by creating additional new email message compositions, each new email will appear as a tab

You can click one of the tabs to open that email, and you can close and open new tabs once you’re in tabbed email mode:

As already mentioned, if you like to use Mail tabs feature but if you want to access other data elsewhere in macOS X from another application, you can put the app into split view mode and share the screen side by side with another app.

Note that if you exit the Mail app from full screen mode, you will immediately lose the tabbed emails, appearing as a separate email compose window as usual. This means that if you had quite a few tabbed emails open, you will quit up with some window clutter by exiting full screen in the Mail app.

As mentioned before, this requires the Mail app in OS X El Capitan or later, so if you’re on an older version of Mac OS or Mac OS X, you won’t find the tabbed email feature available.
