So after a lot of requests from our users here is a guide about Use This Simple Trick to Preserve Battery Life on iPhone by Stopping “Searching…”.

If you are traveling through areas with weak cellular signals and generally poor reception, you can save a significant amount of iPhone battery life by simply enabling AirPlane mode feature On. That may sound strange, but it really works, with the idea that when an iPhone has an intermittent cell signal, the cellular modem continuously searches for another available cell tower, which happens to be consuming a lot of battery power. So the solution is to simply prevent the iPhone from searching for a cell signal if you won’t have one anyway.

This one trick is pretty simple, here’s what to remember:

See “Search” often on the iPhone? Enable AirPlane mode to extend iPhone battery life

If you enter a region where you usually have intermittent cellular signals, terribly poor reception that often switches from ‘No Service’ to ‘Searching …’, or you are about to spend an hour looking for your car in underground parking, just swipe up from the bottom of the screen to go to Control Center and hit the AirPlane switch:

Save battery when iPhone searches for signal

That is it. This prevents the iPhone from “searching” by disabling all aspects of the device’s communication, preventing the cellular modem from draining its battery to search for a cell tower. Keep AirPlane mode on while in the region with no reception to prevent the iPhone from searching for a signal.

(For those who may not know, AirPlane Mode turns off iPhone’s ability to create phone sending calls and data … so why this trick is only suitable for when you cannot make calls or use data)

Back in cell range? Turn off iPhone AirPlane

Once you are confident that you are back in cell range, and you think you can no longer see the Search signal indicator because you are out of a parking garage maze, escaped the depths of a canyon, or left the blessings to return to civilization, you can safely turn AirPlane mode back off and have your usual signal and cell connection again. Again, just jump back to the Control Center and turn it off. You’re good to go, and you’ve saved battery life while you’re at it.

This really works to preserve precious battery life, especially if you are in an area where the iPhone has trouble receiving. I recently had the opportunity to test this theory on a series of trips to the countryside, and the difference was noticeable. So the next time you’re in a place where you just know you won’t have a signal, it’s worth trying it out for yourself as even the iPhone sitting in your pocket looking for a cell tower for an hour , can really drain your battery while you can’t access a reliable cell signal.

This one trick works on all iPhone models, but access to Control Center depends of course on which iPhone you have, and Control Center may look different on some iOS versions. For iPhones with a Home button, sweep up from the bottom of the screen open the Control Center and for iPhones without one Home button, a swipe down from the top right corner next to the screen. Notch is how you access Control Center (like iPhone X).

This is of course not the only one tip To get more portable use out of your iOS gear, one of my personal favorites that I use constantly is to turn on the power saving mode on the iPhone, which allows a few features which you probably won’t notice while using a lot less battery in return. You can also check out this iPhone battery tricks that actually work, but none of these are the hocus-pocus you sometimes see … and if you’re a tablet user there are of course some tips also for extending the battery of an iPad.
