Huawei Honor 6X Review: Huawei is on a roll with their mid-range sub-brand Honor, which includes a slew of high-quality yet reasonably priced smartphones that only get better with each iteration. The latest addition to the series, the Honor 6X, may share some similarities with its predecessor. However, a more refined design and quite a few improvements are available this time around.

Huawei Honor 6X Design

Honor 6X

The Honor 6X retains the composite metal design of its predecessor, which means that whereas the design does feature metal elements, it doesn’t include a full metal unibody construction. The 6X also sports a slightly more curvy design when in comparison with its predecessors. The right side of the device houses the microSD card tray/dual-SIM card slot. There’s also a fingerprint sensor on the back, which sits beneath the dual-camera sensor.

Huawei Honor 6X Display

Honor 6X

It comes with a 5.5-inch LCD with a 1080p resolution, and it’s a nice display overall. Sharpness isn’t a problem, and it gets shiny sufficient to allow for comfortable outdoor visibility. However, my major gripe with this screen is that the colors seem like pretty washed out. That mentioned, it does get the job done, and the massive display offers a good experience when browsing the web, enjoying games and watching movies.

Huawei Honor 6X Software

Huawei Honor 6X

On the software side of things, you get the Emotion UI skin on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. However, an official update to Android 7.0 Nougat is predicted to arrive shortly. The user interface is very bright, colorful, and somewhat cartoonish, and you get every little thing that we’ve observed from the EMUI in the past, just like the transparency effects and the shortage of an app drawer.

Huawei Honor 6X Hardware and Performance

Huawei Honor 6X

As talked about, the Honor 6X comes with a hybrid dual-SIM card slot, which implies that users have the selection between dual-SIM capabilities or expandable storage.

Underneath the hood, the Honor 6X comes with a 3GB of RAM and Huawei’s mid-range processor, the Kirin 655. There is also a global version of the device comes with a 4GB of RAM. That is an important upgrade in processing energy and RAM when in comparison with its predecessor, and it shows in the performance, that is impressive for a mid-range smartphone.

Huawei Honor 6X Camera

Huawei Honor 6X

The Honor 6X comes with a 12MP main unit and 2MP secondary unit, with the latter doing used purely to capture depth info that can be taken benefit of when using the camera’s wide aperture mode. The wide aperture mode allows you to dial in the aperture from f/16 down to as wide as f/0.95, which permits for a very massive bokeh effect.

Conclusion

Honor 6X

Budget phones simply keep getting better and better. The Honor 6X is joined for first place in the $250 phone class with the Lenovo Moto G4 Plus. Its slick design and special camera methods heighten its appeal. However, a non-stock Android experience may put some buyers off.

Yes. When you’re on a budget, and you’re okay with an iPhone-like user interface, the Honor 6X is a nice buy.
