The Jaybird Vista is one for the Best wireless earbuds out there – and it’s not hard to see why. With a sleek, compact design and features that are squarely focused on real and budding athletes – with the ability to appeal to the less dedicated fitness nuts among us as well. With the Jaybird Run True – and waterproof Run XTs – the Jaybird Vista earbuds are very compact fitness earbuds with the water and sweat resistance to cope with all levels of indoor and outdoor workouts. This is our Jaybird Vista Review.
Like the truly wireless earbuds, you won’t find any cables getting in your way. With a massive boost to Bluetooth connectivity compared to previous models and an incredibly compact charging case that you can wear on your runs, the Jaybird Vista earbuds are great running earbuds, with just a few small warnings to temper that excitement.
Jaybird Vista Review Design
The Vista earbuds are comfortable to look at, but their simplicity promises a brilliantly undressed design. Instead of just sticking silicone earbuds to the end of the earbud, the Vistas use a fully attached housing with earplug and wingtip (to fit in the inner and upper rim of your ear, respectively). This means you’re not tinkering with different parts, while the connected design prevents water or your caustic sweat from getting into the drivers.
The Vista earbuds have IPX7 water resistance, which means they can handle both a rain shower and a short dive in up to a meter of water – although we wouldn’t recommend them for swimming. You get three different sizes of attached earplugs, with one completely removing the wingtip: for a less secure fit, but for more comfort for more casual listening sessions where you don’t sprint around a track.
The Jaybird Vista earbuds are also incredibly compact – but that’s not nearly as impressive as the compact size of their carrying case, which uses angled charging stations to minimize the size of the bag. While charging cases are often bulky to carry around during a run or workout, the Jaybird Vista case should fit easily into a zipped pocket or something similar, while being light enough that it won’t take precious seconds off your personal best.
Jaybird Vista Review Performance
We were a bit surprised by the quality of the sound on these earbuds. The re is a pleasant wide sound image for such small 6mm drivers, with a warm and full sound over the low, mid, and high frequencies, and the resonance to hear the individual notes slowly fading over the whole track. Both the thumping drums and the falsetto vocals of Muse’s Plug In Baby are beautifully drawn, with an audio performance more like over-ear cans than compact fitness earphones – and we found this in any number of pop, rock or bassy techno songs we played through.
The ability to play in the Jaybird app helped, of course – with multiple EQ options available online or offline when you open the app, as well as suggested podcasts and playlists from other Jaybird users. You can quickly create your sound profile, so you can customize the frequencies of each song or podcast to suit your unique sound impression. But the re’s also an option to jump in with pre-built options for warmer mid-tones, boosting the bass, or simply removing the higher frequencies that are likely to give you a headache during a long listening session.
The y don’t go very loud, so if you’re hoping to drown out the outside world entirely, these aren’t the earbuds for it. Nevertheless, the secure fit provides excellent sound isolation, and the Vista earbuds keep the audio detail together as loud as possible. The 16 hours of battery life has always taken us a full day. While other pairs of earbuds may have more charge, you don’t get the same compact housing with a larger battery – and because it’s the Vista’s housing, it was a dream come true.
The Jaybird Vista real wireless earbuds are amazing at what they achieve. Even though they are fitness-first earbuds, they still manage to provide incredible audio in addition to water and sweat resistance like The Best of them. The se earbuds are certainly not cheap. But the combination of intense colors, compact and lightweight design, and premium sound make them a no-brainer for your next true wireless earbuds – whether you’re training for a marathon or just running to the office.
