Keyboard, Trackpad, and TrackPoint

ThinkPad x270

The 6-series chiclet keyboard built into the X270 is just like the ThinkPad T470 keyboard. There’s, however, an important deviation from the structure, since the keyboard doesn’t quite correspond to the usual size, it’s slightly less wide. This reduces some keys, together with Backspace, Ü, Ä, and the three keys (AltGr, Print, Ctrl) to the right of the Empty key.

The combination of TouchPad and TrackPoint, formerly known as UltraNav Lenovo is in the 12-inch X-series unchanged since the X250 of 2015. Compared to the current T-series or the X1 Carbon, the TouchPad is quite small, it’s something Less broad and also somewhat restricted in depth.

The TrackPoint works with the X270 as well as with all different ThinkPads. Only the TrackPoint buttons, which aren’t quite as nice as the T470, are worth the effort, with the buttons, have a slightly different design.

Battery Life

ThinkPad x270

Just like the T470 and all X models since the X240, the X270 has Lenovo’s “PowerBridge” feature. Which means two batteries are installed in the test set, one internally and only accessible if the base cover has been eliminated. The other battery, however, which is positioned in the rear area of the device, is external, ie accessible to the user. Both batteries have the identical capacity (23 Wh), so a total of 46 Wh of battery capacity are installed in the X270.

Configuration Option

ThinkPad x270

At the time of testing, Lenovo provides 4 different models of the ThinkPad X270 in Germany. Our model is the only one available in the campus program exclusively, it’s equipped with the Intel Core i5-7200U, a 512 GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM. Of the three different models, two also include the Core i5-7200U; The third, most costly model is delivered with the Core i7-7500U and 512 GB SSD

The most costly model has 16GB of RAM, the more affordable models, our test kit included, come with 8GB of RAM. Since there’s only one RAM slot, 16 GB RAM is also the maximum expansion. A new function of the X260 is that it’s now DDR4-2400 memory.

Conclusion

ThinkPad x270

With the X270 Lenovo for the fourth time successively the identical housing “warmed up” (in the truest sense of the word). As always with ThinkPads, the superb input devices definitely speak for the device, similar to the PowerBridge function that no competitor has to supply. The X270 has many connections for a small device and is thus flexible to use, as well as its compact size makes it simple to handle.

An argument may very well be the price, however, also the basic 12-inch subnotebooks should not for the small purse.
