The milestone was announced in a post on the franchise’s website, in which publisher Activision thanked its huge audience that has amassed since its debut back in 2003. This means that the series has sold around 100 million games since May 2019, when the firm revealed that the Call of Duty series boasted over 300 million sales.
Premium Call of Duty titles have sold 400 million copies to date.
This latest milestone also comes as Activision revealed that the free-to-play battle royale release, Call of Duty: Warzone has attracted 100 million people since it was released in March 2020.
Those users aren’t included in the 400 million stat, given that Warzone is free-to-play. The same is true of the 300 million-plus people who have downloaded Call of Duty: Mobile to date.
“While celebrating the number of players who have dropped into Warzone, we also crossed another major milestone across the franchise: over 400 Million Call of Duty premium games have been sold since the very first Call of Duty® launched back in October 2003, to the franchise’s most recent release of Call of Duty®: Black Ops Cold War in November 2020,” Activision wrote.
