SINTTIA was elected as the plant’s first independent union in one of the first union elections under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which aims to close the wage gap between American and Mexican workers. The contract deal was kept under wraps by GM.
The plant’s new union, SINTTIA, announced on Thursday that GM has agreed to raise salaries by 8.5 percent in a new collective contract for its production hub in the central Mexican city of Silao.
