Amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexandria LGC Biosearch Technologies, a life sciences company that acquired Douglas Scientific in 2016, experienced both exhilarating and discouraging moments. In an article published by Enterprise Minnesota and shared with The Echo Press, Kristen Berg, the director of the Alexandria site of LGC Biosearch Technologies, described the rollercoaster experience of navigating through uncharted territory.
The pandemic brought about a surge in demand for mass COVID testing, and Biosearch Technologies quickly rose to the occasion. Despite facing uncertainties and unknowns at the onset of the pandemic, Berg highlighted that their company’s philosophy was to play a role in addressing this challenge and finding solutions with their technologies. This led to rapid growth and concentration within the company as they collaborated with large healthcare organizations to scale up mass testing.
However, before putting their instrumentation to work for COVID testing purposes, they had to obtain Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from regulatory authorities – a process that took several months. Once EUAs were implemented, there was a significant increase in equipment sales revenue for Biosearch Technologies. This windfall was not without its difficulties though – staff were unable to travel to install laboratory equipment across different parts of the world due to travel restrictions.
Despite these challenges, LGC anticipated the surge in demand early on and stocked up on materials needed for production. Additionally, they leaned on unique customer relationships during this time and collaborated closely with clients to address problems together. Berg emphasized how being part of a larger international business enabled them to have access to resources globally when needed.
Looking towards the future, Berg sees opportunities in oligo synthesis as a key area for Biosearch Technologies’ advancement. With agility being crucial in the biotechnology industry, she highlighted that innovation is necessary as new challenges arise every day.
As we move forward from this unprecedented time marked by global challenges such as pandemics and climate change affecting food production methods, it is clear that companies like Biosearch Technologies are committed to staying ahead through collaboration with their customers and continuous innovation.
It is disclosed that provided by The Echo Press (“Alexandria’s LGC Biosearch Technologies overcomes challenges of pandemic”), it is evident that amidst adversity comes resilience and adaptability – qualities essential for success in today’s rapidly evolving landscape.
