Back 4 Blood peaked at 39,052 simultaneous Steam players, making it one of the platform’s top 25 players for the day, as SteamDB shows. (This doesn’t count for someone playing the PC version through Xbox Game Pass.) As of this writing, it’s game number 13 on Steam, which sits between Rocket League and Rainbow Six Siege.
Back 4 Blood is as similar to Left 4 Dead 3 as possible, and no new Steam game can avoid analysing player figures – so here we are! Back 4 Blood’s player count is publicly known now that it has a complete release after a few days of Early Access, and it’s very remarkable, even though it lags well behind its predecessor.
That’s more than Left 4 Dead 2’s highest player count of 18,865 today, albeit well below the older game’s all-time record of 162,399 set in 2013. That’s not a fair comparison, however – Left 4 Dead 2 was given away as a free Christmas gift from Valve the day before that massive record. Still, L4D2 had hit up to 49,193 by August 2021. It’s hard to beat any of the games everyone owns on Steam.
Anyway, it seems Left 4 Dead 2 superseded the original. The first L4D already set its all-time record of 30,616 in 2009, a few months after launch.
