Apple disagrees with a report from security company ZecOps, which found an exploit that took advantage of the standard iOS Mail app.
In the now disputed report, ZecOps said the critical error was in the Mail application and could have been caused by sending specially manipulated emails that did not require user interaction.
Critics have said that if the exploit had been able to delete the emails, it could have also deleted the crash log data. Critics have said that the failure and certain technical details in the ZecOps report strongly suggest that the error was a more favorable bug caused by certain types of emails. Critics also said they were skeptical that an advanced performance would cause a crash.
An interesting update of this saga. The bug may have caused these devices to crash, but it remains to be seen if this has led to stolen data.
