Apple to delay mass production of 2020 flagship iPhones

Apple Inc is slowing production of its flagship iPhones coming later this year, by about a month as the coronavirus pandemic has weakened global consumer demand and disrupted production in Asia, the Wall Street Journal reported https: //www.wsj #com / Articles / Apple Delays-Mass-Production-2020-Flagship-iPhones-11587984138 citing people familiar with the matter.

Apple continues to plan to release four new iPhone models later this year, the source report said. The new models are powered by 5G connectivity that promises low response times and faster internet.

The Nikkei had reported in late March https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Coronavirus/Apple-weighs-delaying-5G-iPhone-launch-by-months-sources-say that Apple was preparing to launch its first 5G iPhones. Monday’s WSJ report added that Apple has cut the number of handsets it plans to make in the second half of this year by as much as 20%.

The company, which traditionally unveils new iPhones in September, has https://www.reuters.com/article/us-apple-iphone/apple-has-a-399-iphone-se-for-the-budget-conscious- as-coronavirus-stalls-economy-idUSKCN21X29X released a smaller iPhone earlier this month for $ 399. Apple did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
