Australia launches COVID-19 tracking app

Australia has launched its coronavirus tracing app called COVIDSafe, despite criticism for its approach to privacy. The voluntary software is based on Singapore’s TraceTogether and will use a combination of Bluetooth and stored contact information on both the app and servers to let people know if they have been in close contact with people who tested positive for COVID-19, reported Engadget. #

The Australian government has also promised that the COVID-19 tracking app will not collect locations and will only share data with health officials after an infected person consents. The government has also vowed to remove information about its end when the pandemic is over.

Applications such as COVIDSafe can be vital to end the lock in countries as it will be easier to track the spread of the coronavirus. (ANI)
