The Thursday lecture is part of the college’s Bethany Connect series, which shares virtual presentations from Bethany faculty, alumni and other guests with the community. All lectures are available on Bethany’s YouTube channel. She conducts epidemiologic clinical research in health disparities and basic bench research on the biology of health disparities and minority aging. “Bethany College has been very pleased to host both our faculty and outside experts from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health as part of our Connections series,” said Joe Lane, provost and dean of faculty. “We want to engage our students, faculty, staff, alumni and networks in robust discussions about the public health challenges our nation faces, and Dr. Evans’ talk promises to expand that discussion in ways that are very appropriate the Martin Luther King, Jr., week. We thank her for participating and look forward to sharing her work with the Bethany community.”

The public is welcome to join the discussion at tinyurl.com/bcevanslecture. To conclude Thursday’s lecture, Anna Edlund, associate professor and chair of the Bethany Biology Department, will moderate a question-and-answer session.

An internist and medical oncologist, Evans graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University, and earned her medical degree from Rutgers University. She also completed postgraduate training in internal medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and a fellowship within the Medicine Branch of the Clinical Oncology Program at the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Michele Evans will discuss her work at the National Institutes of Health and her experience as an African-American woman in health sciences. Her talk is titled “The Road to Health Equity in Baltimore: The Biology of the Social Determinants of Health.”
