The concept sounds preposterous, and the Bloodshore teaser trailer looks preposterous to match. But if it leans into the cheese factor in just the right way, it could fall into a perfect “so bad it’s good” territory. That’s what I’m rooting for, anyway. Plus, Bloodshore is coming from the producers of The Complex, a sci-fi thriller FMV game from Wales Interactive that I enjoyed quite a bit. Hopefully it has nothing in common with dark thriller I Saw Black Clouds, which is one of the worst things I ever played on Switch.
If you’re gonna play FMV games, you have to be willing to accept some cheese factor, and it looks like Bloodshore is going to be the entire Cheesecake Factory. Today, FMV game specialist Wales Interactive, along with co-developers Wayout Pictures, Good Gate Media, and Posterity Entertainment, announced that Bloodshore is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and iOS in November 2021. It is about a fictional “deadly televised battle royale between high-profile streamers, entertainers, and death row inmates,” and the protagonist is a washed-up actor looking for a payday named Nick. Impressively, the game contains a total of eight hours of FMV footage, making it the most elaborate Wales Interactive production to date.
