The Nigerian Army Chief of Training, Maj. Gen. Sani Muhammed, has urged officers to embrace technology to enhance their digital skills and fully adapt to the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff. Speaking at the graduation ceremony of participants of the Nigerian Army Resource Center (NARC) Leadership Skills Development Course 7/2023, Maj. Gen. Muhammed emphasized the importance of utilizing technology in improving leadership skills and innovation in the evolving security environment.

The two-week course was specifically designed to address leadership gaps at tactical levels and has undergone significant improvements. The army personnel cannot afford to be left behind in the digital age as critical thinking and emotional intelligence skills are essential for effective decision-making and problem-solving.

Maj. Gen. Muhammed highlighted the significance of mobile phones, which can also serve as tools for investigations and gathering information. He stressed that the knowledge gained from such courses should be applied in daily activities, with feedback sought from commanders when personnel return to their respective units.

The Director General of NARC, retired Major General Garba Wahab, commended the center’s commitment to capacity building for optimal performance among army personnel. He stated that this particular course aimed to train senior non-commissioned officers (NCOs) and mid-level officer cadre by equipping them with relevant leadership skills, creativity, critical thinking, and digital training necessary for operating in the 21st century.

Brig.-Gen UM Aliyu, Director of Leadership Development Institute at NARC, explained that the course had 60 participants comprising officers, soldiers, and a civilian staff member from Cyber Warfare Command. The primary objective was to enhance leadership effectiveness in contemporary security environments while bridging observed skill deficits.

It is evident that technology plays a crucial role in modern warfare strategies and operations. The Nigerian Army recognizes this fact by emphasizing the need for its personnel to embrace digital skills and leverage technology for optimal performance. By constantly improving their leadership skills, critical thinking abilities, and emotional intelligence, army officers and soldiers can stay ahead in an ever-evolving security landscape.

It is declared that, the Nigerian Army remains committed to enhancing the capacity of its personnel through various training programs. The NARC Leadership Skills Development Course is just one example of how the army is investing in its workforce to ensure they are well-equipped for the challenges they face.

In the end, technology has become an indispensable tool in today’s world, including military operations. The Nigerian Army’s encouragement for its personnel to improve their digital skills is a testament to their commitment to staying at the forefront of modern warfare techniques. By embracing technology and continuously developing their leadership capabilities, army officers and soldiers will be better prepared to tackle evolving security threats effectively.
